My Favorites of April: Psychological Tricks, The Value of Tech Brands & Facebook’s News Feed

April was election month in France. But my favorite articles shared this month don’t contain politics, because (1) we yet have to elect our President in the second round, (2) I believe it’s pretty obvious whom to favor, and (3) I’ll try not to turn this blog too much into a political tribune. This past month, I’ve read great stuff about brand building in the tech world (Airbnb), in-app user behavior (Uber) and why Facebook & Google should freak out (Amazon).

My Favorites of March: Stickiness to Uber, Good Relationships & Customer Lifetime Value

Click to see Waldinger’s TED talf on happiness

Just 6 links to articles and videos this month, mostly on digital marketing strategy, but also this great TED talk on happiness across generations and social classes. Robert Waldinger is heading this incredible study – still underway – which tries to identify the most solid predictor of human happiness. In typical TED talk fashion – thank God because academic discourse would have been less exhilarating – he outlines a couple of findings worth having in mind. The best is that his recipes are available to all of us. I hope you’ll find it as useful as I did.

My Favorites in November: French Food, @VanJones68’s Overall Attitude & Fake News

"How did it get to the point where, when you disagree with somebody, you have to be their enemy?" Van Jones

“How did it get to the point where, when you disagree with somebody, you have to be their enemy?” Van Jones (click to watch)

Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Pretty much what I thought when hearing the U.S. election results, wondering how a great country can legitimately elect a populist leader like Donald Trump. I still try to make sense of it. But I also try hard not to be patronizing or condescendent, because it’s the voice of the people, and the beauty of democrac is that everyone’s vote has the same value. Still, this result shakes up a lot in my head and heart. Let’s hope for the best, as Obama says in one interview included below.

This month is crumped with articles about the U.S. election, politically more engaged than I used to share, but not only. You’ll also find a great article about Twitter’s data, a funny video about French food and my personal favorite of the month: Van Jones. Life goes on and many other things are worth spending time on, so here’s my monthly selection of links.

I Read This Book About The Importance of Wasting Time on the Internet

wasting-time-on-the-internet-book

Are we becoming lazier and dumbing ourselves down with silly content on the internet? Should we be scared that most of us look like sleepwalking zombies when walking while staring at our smartphones? Many believe it, and countless articles are written around that narrative. Not much room for optimism. Kenneth Goldsmith, a poet and artist from New York City, believes that more good than bad stems from our increased connectedness – and he wrote a book about it: “Wasting Time On The Internet.” Continue reading →

Dario Grandinetti’s brilliant role of Pope Francis

It’s been two-and-a-half years (first was in April 2014) now that I am doing these monthly posts, and I find them very useful to sort the best out of the daily reads, tweets and other activities that fills our lives. I hope they are equally useful for you, reader.

We had a nice month of September in Paris, with warm weather and lots of sunshine. While the sun was shining, I read & watched a number of things that I want to share with you : ads, movies, comics, articles and more.

Find this hilarious video and 9 other links, most of which relate to user experience and design management, in the July digest.
